Three Chelmsford Community Radio (CCR) presenters, Will McKenzie, Scott Page, and Greg Page, have been honored at the station's inaugural awards event. This recognition celebrates their outstanding contributions to local broadcasting and the inclusive community station. The trio, who present The Will Show and In The Middle, respectively, have become familiar voices on air, despite having learning disabilities. Their achievements are a testament to CCR's mission to provide broadcasting opportunities for people of all abilities.
The awards ceremony, attended by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Julia Frascona, highlighted the presenters' dedication and commitment to the station. Will received a special award for his 500th programme, while Scott and Greg were honored with the Outstanding Contribution award for their long-standing commitment to the station. These awards not only recognize the presenters' hard work but also underscore CCR's commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for individuals with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Matthew Eaves, Volunteer Director of CCR, expressed his admiration for the presenters, stating, 'Will, Scott, and Greg embody the spirit of Chelmsford Community Radio. We've helped countless individuals find their voice and express themselves freely on air, free from judgment or fear.' Eaves further emphasized the station's focus on community, inclusion, and celebrating local talent.
CCR, founded over 13 years ago, operates entirely on a volunteer basis. It boasts a diverse team of over 50 presenters, aged 13 to 75, who receive training and confidence-building support. The station broadcasts from the Anglia Ruskin University campus and relies on local business support, grants, donations, and membership subscriptions to sustain its operations.
The recognition of these presenters is a significant milestone for CCR, showcasing the positive impact of community radio on individuals' lives and the broader community.
