Li-Ning Fall 2026: Team China on the Slopes! Milan Fashion Week (2026)

Ever dreamt of hitting the slopes in style, decked out in cutting-edge athletic wear? Li-Ning's Fall 2026 collection gives us a glimpse into that future! During Milan Fashion Week, Li-Ning's show made it abundantly clear: the energy and aesthetic of the Winter Olympics are officially influencing high fashion. Several brands subtly or overtly paid homage to winter sports, focusing on performance activewear or fashion heavily inspired by it.

Li-Ning, the sportswear giant and official partner of the Chinese Olympic Committee, boldly reclaimed its territory with a spectacular one-off show. They constructed a full-blown ski station inside an industrial venue, complete with chairlifts, providing the audience with a ready-made backdrop for instantly viral videos. Even Jackie Chan, the legendary martial artist, actor, and filmmaker, was impressed by the elaborate set, making a last-minute appearance to witness the runway spectacle. The show even featured a fresh iteration of the ongoing Li-Ning Glory x Jackie Chan collaboration.

The co-ed collection began with a healthy dose of "gorpcore" – that outdoorsy, functional style – filtered through an urban and utilitarian lens. Think nylon pleated skirts with fastening straps worn over base layers for women, leotards paired with padded miniskirts and windbreakers. For men, there were duster coats with matching pants layered over rain jackets and relaxed suits, or overshirts with matching pants, creating a techy, almost nerdy vibe.

This urban-leaning, lifestyle expansion of the brand's athletic roots, dubbed Li-Ning Glory, presented some interesting pieces. Great padded parkas, technical underpinnings that would be useful in a city snowstorm, and a nylon bralette nodding to mountaineering backpacks all stood out. But here's where it gets controversial... While undeniably cool, some might argue that the collection lacked a distinct, original identity. Was it truly pushing boundaries, or simply echoing existing trends? This begs the question: Can a brand successfully bridge the gap between high fashion and practical athletic wear without losing its unique character?

The show then transitioned into Li-Ning's true strength: full-on sportswear. Founded in 1990 by the champion gymnast of the same name, the Chinese brand demonstrated its expertise. Models descended from a frosty, imposing mountain at the runway's end, showcasing ski and snowboard suits in diverse silhouettes. There were cropped and bulky styles, anorak-style suits, designs inspired by drawstring field jackets, and even pieces accented with faux fur. The range also included striking pieces in aurora-inspired hues, referencing the signature colorways of the 2004 Athens Olympics. And this is the part most people miss... The clever use of Olympic colorways subtly connected the collection to a legacy of athletic achievement and national pride.

Beyond the ski suits, there were interesting voluminous parkas, knitted polos, and turtlenecks adorned with graphic motifs inspired by "bloke-core" aesthetics. Fabulous padded headwear and puffer jackets were paired with matching technical pants and sweatpants, creating coordinated looks perfect for both the slopes and après-ski activities. "The goal is not only to create a memorable elevated experience, but to reflect Li-Ning’s longstanding commitment to promoting sports and the spirit of continuous breakthroughs through design and storytelling,” said Colin Li, the brand’s executive director and a second-generation member of the founding Li family.

As fake snowflakes gently fell during the finale, it's safe to say many in the audience were daydreaming about their next ski trip. But beyond the aspirational imagery, the show raises a fundamental question: Can fashion truly capture the spirit of athleticism, or is it destined to remain a stylish imitation? Is performance-inspired fashion just a trend, or a genuine evolution in how we dress? What did you think of Li-Ning's collection? Did it inspire you to hit the slopes, or did it fall flat?
